The MA programme in socio-cultural anthropology is designed for people with a BA degree that are curious about the human interaction and cultural diversity, the origins of cultures and people and the issues of the modern world - inequality, globalisation, identity politics etc. It is an open programme that accepts students from all disciplines and promotes interdisciplinary studies, drawing on the larger resources of the University that unites several academic institutions from different fields of human and social sciences. Our geographical location between the East and West offers excellent possibilities to study from various perspectives both the past history and modern developments of the former Soviet cultural area from the perspective of socio-cultural anthropology. The aim is to qualify people to work in the areas that require an understanding of human behaviour and cultural diversity, including education and research, public offices, business, education, medicine, regional politics, cultural heritage and social welfare. Due to the holistic quality of the discipline, socio-cultural anthropology is also an excellent choice for preparing the student for continuous academic endeavours either in anthropology or in any other human or social sciences.
